Sr. Product Development Engineer
WET is looking for a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer to join the WET Product Design Team!
You will be part of a highly collaborative group responsible for conceiving, architecting, designing, and producing exciting new products and devices that will bring moment-of-joy to millions in its lifetime.
Your responsibilities will be extremely dynamic, focused to ensure WET’s products lead in innovating technical capabilities, and in balancing innovation, size, power, and performance.
While contributing to the mechanical design of WET’s products, you will work closely with many cross-functional teams, including visual design, industrial design, electrical hardware engineering, manufacturing engineering, tooling, and operations.
Responsibilities include concept generation, concurrent set-based design; product component and module integration; enclosure design; prototype creation and demonstration; manufacturing process and fixture design; and product analysis and testing.
This role offers a great opportunity to develop through rapid iteration, concurrent engineering, on-site production, testing, and assembly.
Qualifications:
- Design intelligence: creative problem solving, diligence in finding the best solution for each design challenge, excellent spatial reasoning skills, attention to detail
- Fundamentals of engineering: strength of materials, material science, statics, heat transfer, fluid dynamics
- Broad range of materials and processes: metal machining basics (cutter and fixture design rules), plastic injection/compression molding basics, designing with metals, designing with polymers, sheet metal design, material finishing basics
- Flexible design skills: tolerance analysis, design for assembly/manufacturability, cross functional electro-mechanical integration, simple fixture design, design considerations for high volume manufacturing, developing initial product layouts, understanding of Statistical Process Controls (SPC), understanding of metrology (basic knowledge of measurement systems), mechanism design
- Design validation skills: identifying critical requirements and test methods to evaluate designs against them, strong failure analysis skills, design of experiments (DOE), finite element analysis (FEA), and mechanical prototyping
Requirements:
- Master’s degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics or related discipline
- Mastery of SolidWorks
- Strong grasp of laws of Physics + ability to push their boundaries
- 10+ years of end-to-end development on products of reasonable complexity
- Familiarity with matrixed organizations, modern agile/lean engineering methods and modern philosophies of team building and retention
