Quality Engineer – Production and Manufacturing
Position Summary
We are seeking a Quality Engineer who is not only a technical expert but also a hands-on leader. You will architect, implement, and optimize our Quality Management System (QMS), drive continuous improvement, and ensure excellence across manufacturing, prototype, and live production environments. This is a highly visible, mission-critical role for someone who thrives on solving complex challenges, leading teams, and delivering flawless execution.
Key Responsibilities
1. Advanced Quality Engineering & Process Excellence
Develop and Own the QMS: Design, deploy, and maintain a state-of-the-art Quality Management System in compliance with ISO 9001, AS9100, or similar standards.
Statistical Process Control (SPC): Implement and monitor SPC methodologies to ensure process stability and capability.
Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (FMEA): Lead cross-functional FMEA sessions to proactively identify and mitigate risks.
Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Utilize structured problem-solving techniques (5 Whys, Fishbone, 8D) to resolve complex quality issues.
Continuous Improvement: Champion Lean, Six Sigma, and Kaizen initiatives to drive defect reduction, yield improvement, and operational efficiency.
2. Laboratory & Metrology Leadership
Advanced Measurement Systems: Oversee the operation, programming, and maintenance of CMM, FARO Arm, and other precision measurement equipment.
Metrology Strategy: Define and execute metrology strategies for new product introductions and legacy products.
Calibration & Maintenance: Ensure all inspection and test equipment is calibrated, validated, and maintained to industry standards.
3. Team Leadership & Development
Build and Lead Teams: Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of quality professionals.
Training & Knowledge Transfer: Develop and deliver technical training programs on quality standards, measurement techniques, and best practices.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain to embed quality at every stage of the product lifecycle.
4. Prototyping & Production Support
Live Prototyping: Provide hands-on technical support during prototyping, testing, and production ramp-up.
Product Validation: Design and execute validation protocols for new products and processes.
Nonconformance Management: Lead investigations, corrective actions, and preventive actions (CAPA) for nonconforming products and processes.
5. Data-Driven Quality Management
Quality Metrics & Analytics: Establish and monitor KPIs (PPM, OEE, First Pass Yield, etc.) to drive data-driven decision making.
Advanced Data Analysis: Utilize tools such as Minitab, JMP, or Tableau for statistical analysis and predictive modeling.
Documentation & Traceability: Maintain rigorous documentation and ensure full traceability of all quality records.
6. Supplier Quality & External Partnerships
Supplier Quality Engineering: Conduct supplier audits, performance reviews, and development initiatives.
Material Qualification: Oversee incoming inspection and qualification of critical materials and components.
Technical Competencies & Experience
Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or Quality Engineering.
Experience: 8+ years in quality engineering, with demonstrated leadership in manufacturing, metrology, and live prototyping environments.
Certifications: ASQ CQE, Six Sigma Black Belt, or similar credentials highly preferred.
Technical Skills:
QMS: Deep expertise in ISO 9001, AS9100, or similar standards.
Metrology: Advanced proficiency with CMM, FARO Arm, PC-DMIS, and other measurement systems.
Data Analysis: Strong analytical skills with experience in SPC, FMEA, and statistical software (Minitab, JMP).
Process Improvement: Proven track record in Lean, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies.
Leadership: Experience building, leading, and developing technical teams.
Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
Physical Demands
Hands-On Role: Regular standing, walking, and sitting; ability to work in manufacturing and lab environments.
Technical Dexterity: Ability to operate and troubleshoot complex measurement and inspection equipment.
